How cashback works

Set a cashback percentage once and every sale credits it automatically — here is how to configure it, how it is calculated, and how customers use it.

1. Create a cashback rule

In the merchant dashboard, open Wallet and add a rule. Each rule has:

  • Applies to — every sale, one product category, or one named product.
  • Cashback % — the share of the bill returned to the customer. 5 means a ₹1,000 bill earns ₹50.
  • Minimum bill amount — bills below this earn no cashback.
  • Max cashback amount — optional cap per sale. With 10% and a cap of ₹100, a ₹5,000 bill earns ₹100, not ₹500.
  • Expiry (days) — optional. Cashback from a sale expires this many days after it is earned. Leave blank for no expiry.
  • Priority — when more than one rule matches a sale, only the highest-priority rule applies. Unlike points, cashback rules do not stack.
  • Active — inactive rules are skipped.

2. Record a sale

Record the sale against a customer in any of the usual ways. As soon as it is saved, Puraskar finds the matching rule and credits the cashback:

cashback = bill amount × cashback % ÷ 100

Rounded to two decimals, then limited by the max cashback amount if you set one.

Worked example

Rule: 5% cashback, minimum bill ₹500, max ₹100. A customer pays a ₹1,000 bill:

1,000 × 5 ÷ 100 = ₹50 added to that customer's wallet with you. A ₹3,000 bill works out to ₹150 and is capped at ₹100. A ₹400 bill earns nothing.

You can run points and cashback at the same time — a single sale can earn both.

3. Where the merchant sees it

  • Sales — the sale's detail page shows the cashback it earned.
  • Wallet → customer — a customer's current balance and full history of credits and debits.
  • Manual adjustment — on that page you can add or deduct an amount with a required note.
  • Voiding a sale reverses whatever is left of the cashback it earned. Amounts the customer has already spent or that have expired cannot be reversed.

4. Where the customer sees and uses it

  • The customer signs in at the customer portal with a one-time code.
  • Under a merchant, Wallet shows the ₹ balance and a history with the balance after each entry.
  • Cashback is spent by redeeming rewards from your catalog that you price in cashback. The amount is deducted when they redeem.

A sale was recorded but no cashback appeared?

  1. Is there an active cashback rule? Rules are set under Wallet, not Points; a points rule never creates cashback.
  2. Does the rule match? A category or product rule only applies to sales containing it, and a minimum bill amount excludes smaller bills.
  3. Is the cashback % above 0? A 0% rule credits nothing, and so does a max cashback amount of 0.

A sale is never rejected for earning nothing — it is saved with ₹0 cashback. Rule changes affect future sales only; to credit one already recorded, use a manual adjustment on the customer's Wallet page.
