How points work

Create an earning rule, record a sale, and see exactly how points are calculated — and where merchants and customers find them.

1. Create an earning rule

In the merchant dashboard, open Points and add a rule. Each rule has:

  • Applies to — every sale, one product category, or one named product.
  • Points per ₹1 spent — the base earning rate. 1 means a ₹1,000 bill earns 1,000 points; 0.1 means 100 points.
  • Bonus multiplier — scales the rate up or down. Use 1 for normal earning, 2 for double points during a promotion. A multiplier of 0 earns nothing, so leave it at 1 unless you want a bonus.
  • Minimum bill amount — bills below this earn no points from the rule.
  • Expiry (days) — optional. Points from a sale expire this many days after they are earned. Leave blank for points that never expire.
  • Priority and stackable — when several rules match a sale, the highest-priority rule always applies. Any other matching rule marked stackable adds its points on top; non-stackable extras are ignored.
  • Active — inactive rules are skipped.

2. Record a sale

Record the sale against a customer — from Sales → New sale, AI Quick Add, a bulk CSV import, or the API. The moment the sale is saved, Puraskar works out the points:

points = bill amount × points per ₹1 × bonus multiplier

The result is rounded down to a whole number.

Worked example

Rule: 1 point per ₹1, multiplier 1, minimum bill ₹500. A customer pays a ₹1,000 bill:

1,000 × 1 × 1 = 1,000 points credited to that customer for your business. A ₹400 bill would earn nothing, because it is below the minimum.

Points are specific to each merchant: a customer has a separate balance with every business they shop at.

3. Where the merchant sees them

  • Sales — every recorded sale shows how many points it earned.
  • Points → customer — a customer's current balance and their full history: each credit, debit, and the balance after it.
  • Manual adjustment — on that same page you can add or deduct points with a required note, for goodwill credits or corrections.
  • Voiding a sale reverses whatever is left of the points it earned. Points the customer has already spent or that have expired cannot be reversed again.

4. Where the customer sees them

  • The customer signs in at the customer portal with a one-time code — no password to remember.
  • Their home page lists every merchant they have points with.
  • Opening a merchant and choosing Points shows the balance and a history of every entry with the balance after each one.
  • From the same merchant page they can redeem points for rewards.

A sale was recorded but no points appeared?

A sale never fails because it earned no points — it is saved and simply credits zero. Check these, in order:

  1. Is there an active rule? With no active rule, no points are earned.
  2. Does the rule match the sale? A category or product rule only applies to sales containing that category or product; a minimum bill amount excludes smaller bills.
  3. Is the bonus multiplier 0? Anything × 0 is 0. Set it to 1 for normal earning.
  4. Is the result below 1? Points are rounded down, so a tiny bill with a low rate (for example ₹5 at 0.1 points per ₹1) can round to 0.

Fixing a rule affects future sales only. To credit a sale that was already recorded, use a manual adjustment on the customer's Points page.
